Swaledale MRT passed on a request from North Yorkshire Police to investigate the sighting, by someone in Horton in Ribblesdale, of ‘large pieces of blue material’ at the side of the path on Pen y ghent. The observer, using binoculars, believed that he may be seeing a crashed hang-glider. A local team member joined him but could not identify what he was looking at. A team Land Rover took two members beyond the top of Horton Scar Lane and they carried out a ‘hasty search’ of the path surrounds. Finding nothing, they reported back, returned to Horton and stood down.
A ‘false alarm with good intent’ unless shown to be otherwise.
