A caller, living over 200 miles away, where there had been heavy rain and flooding, was unable to phone his son (35) who had intended exploring Bull Pot of the Witches. He therefore contacted Cumbria Police, concerned about his son’s safety, some three hours earlier than their agreed ‘call-out time’.
The team was called by YAS after a walker reported that he had sustained an ankle injury. Telephone communication was poor, but it seemed that the casualty may have been in the Colt Park area, so team members were put on stand-by. Just as the duty controller’s PhoneFind message revealed

As the team were cleaning equipment from Incident 87 they received a call from North Yorkshire Police that a group of walkers had not returned from a walk in the Malham Tarn area. After making further enquiries, the Duty Controller confirmed that the overdue party were accounted for and safe
The team were alerted by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to an adult female with a suspected broken ankle. The given What 3 Words (W3W) reference put them in the Airton area. North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum shared a serious flood alert with all of the county’s SAR teams and held an on-line discussion to plan for any necessary action.
