A walker (f, 40s) slipped on the limestone pavement at the top of Malham Cove immediately above the steps, injuring a wrist and a leg. The first member on scene began assessing her and was soon joined by YAS paramedics from the Air Ambulance who diagnosed a wrist fracture, which they splinted. The casualty was lifted into an insulated casualty bag and onto our Titan stretcher. She was carried, then wheeled across to a YAS road ambulance, waiting on Cove Road.
Footnote: Where people have walked over it, surface limestone – particularly at popular limestone pavement sites such as the top of Malham Cove – is extremely slippery at the moment, as walkers’ boots have shed mud onto it.
