A CRO member, out leading a school group (his ‘day-job’), saw a sheep apparently stranded on the ledge at the top of the main shaft into the Gaping Gill main chamber. He passed the information on, but thought the sheep might ‘self-rescue’ if left. The following morning, the Duty Controller diverted his morning run to check the site, but the sheep was no longer there. Local farmers were gathering there flocks from the fell and it is assumed that the sheep had joined them.  No action  required of CRO.
